What motivated you to start studying for a CAM Marketing Communications qualification?
In my early 20’s, with just a little experience of the business, I soon realised that there were many facets to the marketing communications business that I needed to know. Studying CAM gave me the opportunity to have a broad understanding of the business before I went on to forge my career in my chosen specialisation giving me a more rounded knowledge base.
Describe in a few words your studying experience?
When I took CAM it was taught at a couple of colleges in London in evening classes. I found the enthusiasm and camaraderie of my fellow students extremely stimulating as we learned our trade. Many of my fellow students such as Charles Saatchi and Peter Mead went onto become leaders in their fields and I made many lasting friendships. The business we are in is in many cases a craft. Learning the craft through CAM rather than on-the-job was and is a great knowledge accelerator.
What impact has the qualification had on your career?
Above all my CAM qualification gave me the self -confidence to advance my career and put me one step ahead of my contemporaries.
What advice would you have for people starting out in their career?
There is no doubt in my mind that practitioners in Marcoms enjoy a privileged career that’s exciting, demanding and rewarding. Having the foundation of CAM learning accelerates this experience. I can't see how budding practitioners can expect to progress their career without taking CAM.
